HISTORY
The origin of the Clulite came about with the use of an old motor cycle battery and headlight assembly. For night fishing at that time there were no other lamps on the market which were rechargeable or high powered. In fact very few torches were being made. The Clulite torch caused quite a stir when first seen.
The approach of an agricultural salesman who being impressed with the light seen, convinced us that these were a marketable product in the agricultural field, and the Clulite was born.
First batches of lamps were completely hand made in metal which were then plastic coated (also a new invention) in very small batches of 20 at a time. Within a short space of time we were inundated with orders.
The main power source, the battery, was a lead acid construction and had to be of aircraft standard to enable the lamp to be used safely in different angles or even on its side.
To increase production larger premises were needed along with extra staff and the roll of the Clulite lamps began. More important in the overall business of engineering services this also included the tool making facility now concentrating onto plastic mould tools, which were needed to keep up with modern developments in materials and designs.
The major changes at this time in lamp production was the development of a relatively small reflector, moulded in a very special plastic, which had the benefit of repeated accuracy, whilst being able to withstand the heat of high powered bulbs.
Most of the high powered Clulite torches are still based on this development today enabling us with the in-house production, to service lamps which have been in supply for many years. |
